The APCC Voile Sportive (Nantes) is organising the first edition of the French National Youth Match Racing Championships. The club welcomes the youth match racers in mid-November.

Three regional selection trails have provided the contestants for the nationals, to be run on the Bay of la Baule. This will permit promotion of the youth sailors, and also sailing in general.

Decisive Selection Trials

In order to get the best sailors from around France, three selection trials were organised, representing the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and the Channel. From each, the three best teams qualified for the youth national championships.

Actually, just two selection trails have been held to date, and in one of these Simon Troel from the Côtes d’Armor won without loss of a race in the Atlantic area, at Pornichet.

Good organisation

Even if this is the first edition of the event, the APCC is well used to running match racing. The organisation of this event will be modelled on that of the Internationaux de France, flagship of the club since 2002.

Racing accessible to the public

Such an event should also share its passion, to give to others an understanding of the match racing discipline. The public will be able to watch the racing from the jetty in the port of Pornichet, mix with the participants and look up explanations of the rules and racing online on the internet.
