VOR: DELTA LLOYD LEG SEVEN DAY 2 QFB: received 17.5.09 1959 GMT

by Sander Pluijm

"What the hell is that ship doing on our racetrack?" That was my first reaction when I saw the big ship coming out of the fog steaming straight at us.

How is it possible that a cargo-ship is in the middle of our racetrack, is it bad luck or did somebody made a big mistake here..? Whatever it is, it’s coming straight at us! No way we could make the mark and turn in front of the bow so Chuny (Roberto Bermúdez/skipper) had no other chance than make the full circle around the ship.

Therefore our chances for a good position out of Boston were gone. No happy goodbyes from Boston, although the stopover was great, the people of Boston treated us very well, and it was nice to see so many people coming to have a look in village during the stop.

Fortunately the crew recovered very fast from the setback. We kept on racing and before we left the canals we hooked on to Green Dagon and Ericsson 3. The crew found its rhythm very fast and mood on board is good. It’s a long race and the light winds turned out to be not as light as we expected. So we realise we have to keep up with the rest of fleet.

We passed Green Dragon so we are moving up...

Menu today:
Kellogg’s cereals with (Chocó) milk
Chicken a la King with Croutons and
Pasta Lasagne with Parma cheese
Extra treat: protein shake and a slice of Salami
