To farewell the passage to the fourth and final stage of the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series Damiani Italy Challenge obtained success this afternoon.

Racing against Team Origin in the last match of the second Round Robin, the team of Vasco Vascotto profited from the mistake committed in departure by the British crew, against which it was obligatory for them to win. Put under pressure from Damiani Italy Challenge, Ben Ainslie, with four Olympic medals to his name, raised the bow with slight anticipation, ending in an OCS (On the Course Side, early departure) by a couple of seconds. This meant that it was necessary to return the TEAMORIGIN boat behind the starting line.

With an advantage of a hundred metres after only a few minutes, the Italian crew raced with an eye to the upset and contained the return of its opponent thanks to a series of good tactical choices.

The worsening weather situation pushed the Organizing Committee to anticipate the Sail Off races of the fourth round. Tomorrow, Damiani Italia Challenge will return to try to reach the semifinals of the challengers, by sailing against the winner of the match between the same Team Origin and the Anglo-Chinese of China Team, driven by two times world match race champion, Ian Williams.

Vasco Vascotto, tactician and skipper of Damiani Italia Challenge: "Today's race hung on a thread. The boys of Team Origin have gotten used to winning Olympic medals and confronted the match with the same spirit with which they confront a Medal Race. For us to beat a team of such a stature and earn the respect of such an important team is a great satisfaction. Besides, we are seaman with exceptional enthusiasm: the boys are all doing very well".
