Welcoming speeches were given by Madam Zang, Executive Vice President of the Organizing Committee of the Volvo Ocean Race 08-09 Qingdao Stopover, and by Knut Frostad, CEO of the Volvo Ocean Race, before the celebrations began featuring fireworks, drumming and Chinese lions.
